process optimisation for
food mixer extruders
Our experienced engineers can offer advice on screw profiles and process optimisation including barrel temperature profiles, mixing, intake or feed throat problems or complete screw profile changes for new products.
Feeding or intake: - Feed bulky powder raw materials and low bulk density or “sticky” starches without difficulty. We have a number of processing solutions to help you, including our own design of "high intake” feed screws
Instability Problems - Poor stability of extrudate through the dies – is there uneven flow through the die holes or surging?
Under mixing – Undissolved, uncooked grains or poor dispersion of additives in the product? Alternative screw profiles with higher shear mixing elements can help
Over mixing - Product is overcooked and possibly degraded (e.g. excessively friable). Changes to operating conditions or screw profile may be necessary
Die discharge - Melt temperature too high or too low? Do you have a worn discharge screw or too many reversing mixing elements? Are your barrel heaters and cooling channels working correctly? Is your face cutter set up correctly?
Solutions for:
- Low output limits
- Feeding or intake limits
- Reprocessing of fines
- Poor dispersion
- Discharge problems
