Xtrutech have refurbished many twin screw extruders, from laboratory scale, up to large production compounders. Refurbishing an old extruder can be a very cost effective alternative to buying a brand new one.
Refurbishment can also include an upgrade of the extruder. The performance of latest designs of twin screw extruder has increased dramatically over the past few years. More drive power and or higher screw speeds are just two of the differences, and some of these upgrades can be applied to your existing machines.
Since an old machine was specified and constructed, processing requirements and raw materials may have changed, or alternatively the refurbished machine may be required for a new product range. Whilst refurbishment is taking place, barrel segments can be rearranged, or replaced, to optimise the number of addition ports or venting possibilities. It may also be possible to extend the barrel of an older extruder to further improve the performance.
The machine controls may also require to be updated, for example to replace an obsolete and unsupported PLC, or to provide controls that are more easily understood by the operator. Interfaces and interlocks can also be provided to new upstream and downstream processing equipment
